Installing Propex Heaters in Vehicles with Insulated Floors

Mar 28th 2022

Propex heaters are designed to be mounted on the vehicle floor, whether internally like the HS2000 and HS2211 or externally like the HS2211. The following information applies to the internally mounted HS2000 and HS2800 heaters only. The combustion inlet and outlet are stubbed with 2" pipes that allow secure connection to the intake and exhaust piping. Vehicles with thick, insulated floors can present a dilemma when trying to connect the combustion pipes to the heater.

You may purchase Propex heat sleeve (Heat Sleeve for HS2000 or Heat Sleeve for HS2800). This heat sleeve will slide over the exhaust combustion pipe to protect the surrounding area. You will have to drill your hole slightly larger to accommodate the sleeve and seal the gap between the sleeve and floor with high temp gasket maker. You will also have to install your combustion pipes before mounting your heater as the hose clamps on the connection will be covered by the thickness of the flooring. Having hidden hose clamps means that you will have to remove the pipes and heater together whenever removing or installing your heater.

Lastly, use high temperature gasket maker at the point at which the combustion pipes exit the floor.
