Introducing the Van Cafe rear drive axle for VW Vanagon. Engineered and manufactured to stock specifications, these axle shafts are designed to be a direct replacement for your old units.

Paired with new German 944 Lobro joints and premium Rockford boots, this kit comes with everything you need to replace the axle on one side of your van.

944 joints are preferred for Vans with suspension lifts as they have greater articulation than stock joints and can handle the more radical suspension geometry of a non-stock application.

The US-made Rockford boots are much thicker and last longer than stock boots.

Complete with the axle, (2) 944 joints, (2) Rockford boots, (12) bolts, and molybdenum grease. Some customers reused their serrated washers if they still have the concave property. If you don't want to deal with the mess or your washers are worn out, and you need new ones, they are available here.

These axles have extensive testing in our shop Van running 165 horsepower, and we feel confident in their quality. We will warranty breakage of these axles in Vans up to 165 HP under normal driving conditions. Syncros have caused most axle breakage that we've seen over the years, with uprated motors lifting a wheel while offroading and overloading the opposite axle. We cannot extend the warranty to these situations.

Note: These axles are shipped in raw steel. We highly recommend proper finishing to maximize the longevity and aesthetic of your application. On the flip side, you could be the first on your block to color match your axles to your van!

Note: As stated in the Bentley factory service manual (page 42.8), your CV joints will need to be installed onto these axles with a press. New axles are machined to exacting tolerances and are a tight interference fit with the joint. So please be prepared for this step of the installation.

*Please note that the GKN/Lobro CV joints will not fit the Chinese axles on the market.*

Note: As stated in the Bentley factory service manual (page 42.8), your CV joints will need to be installed onto these axles with a press and a bit of anti-seize. New axles are machined to exacting tolerances and are a tight interference fit with the joint. Please be prepared for this step of the installation. Trying to pound them on will only lead to much frustration!

Also, please note:
When we order the CV joints, they are ordered as a kit. As such, they come with the stock CV joint boot. In the past, we have removed the stock boot and replaced them with the Rockford boot. We will no longer practice this, and you will receive two sets of boots. Please compare the two different boots. You will be quite satisfied with the extra money that you spent. What to do with the stock boots? Either keep them as spares or give them to your less fortunate friend who does not have the Rockford boot on their van.
