As with any electrical connection that will be exposed to changing environments, it is important that you use dielectric grease when connecting the thermostat and power harnesses to your Propex circuit board. Dielectric grease is a silicone based product that will seal out moisture and prevent oxidation of the electrical terminals. This is NOT just a matter of smearing a glob of grease onto the connectors and calling it good. Dielectric grease by its very nature is non-conductive and, if applied improperly, will lead to the opposite result than desired.
Proper application of dielectric grease consists of a few easy steps:
- Use a small amount of grease on the end of a q-tip. You need just enough to lightly coat the connector.
- Apply the grease to the female side of the connection only.
- Carefully coat the face of the connector with a light skim of grease.
- Do NOT get any grease in the terminal sockets or on the terminals themselves.
- Once coated, snap the connectors together to make firm contact.
If you have to disconnect the thermostat or power harness at any time in the future, reapply the dielectric grease in the same way.
