Plastic hemisphere for early 12mm Vanagon shifter.  This part slips in the bottom of the metal shifter lever (what you shift with) and is captive in a round shell that limits the travel of your shifter.  If your shifter has become sloppy, it may be that this hemisphere is worn out.

12mm shift levers are found in early vans, usually to mid-1983.  If you are in doubt which shifter you have, simply try and slide a 12mm open end wrench over the metal shift rod.  If it fits, you've got a 12mm lever; if not, you mostly have a 14mm shifter and you'll need the 14mm hemisphere here.
