Complete or even a "Deluxe" shifter base repair kit. Vanagon's thru mid-83 (Early) should have a 12mm diameter shift lever. Mid-83 and on (Late) have a 14mm shift lever shaft. PLEASE CONFIRM YOURS. Some early shift levers have been replaced with the 14mm shaft. The easiest way to measure is to take a 14mm wrench to the shift lever for reference. If it is roughly this size, then order the late kit and if it is sloppy, then order the early kit. Keep in mind there is sometimes a black plastic cover sleeve over the shifter, which is not included in your calculation. Remember to grease up the base/socket to ensure smooth, trouble-free shifting.

It fits stock aircooled, North American diesel, watercooled, and 4-speed transmissions; please check your shift lever shaft size before ordering. It will not fit 5-speed transmissions.
