Protect your sensitive power door and power window electrics with our door vapor barrier kit. Even with all new seals, water will penetrate the inner door shell in your Vanagon. Our heavy duty kit protects not only the moisture-sensitive hardboard door panels but also covers your door speaker, window motor, and power door lock wiring.
This kit includes the upper main vapor barrier as well as the smaller lower vapor barrier that covers the window motor. Also included is a roll with of butyl rubber with enough to attach all the pieces.
Installation is easy:
- Remove the door panel (see your Bentley Factory Repair Manual for details)
- Remove the old (probably cracked/ripped) plastic vapor barrier.
- Remove the old adhesive with a plastic scraper.
- Note the routing of the old adhesive and apply the new butyl adhesive along the same path.
- Lay out your vapor barrier - Note that the speaker pocket goes toward the INSIDE of the door so that it cups the speaker when the door panel is replaced.
- Hold the vapor barrier up to the door and, starting in one top corner and working around, push the plastic into the butyl adhesive.
- Don't push the pastic hard into the adhesive until you have the vapor barrier straight and laid out where you want it.
- With a roller or your thumb, push the plastic against the adhesive along the entire length
- Replace your door panel and components
- Enjoy your peace of mind that comes with a job well done!
