Subaru Drive-by-Wire Throttle Kit - Vanagon Manual Transmission

This kit is the perfect solution when using a 2005 and later Subaru engine in your Vanagon conversion.  Starting in 2005, Subaru used a drive by wire throttle system in which the pedal is used to tell the ECU throttle position.  If using this system in your conversion, you'll retain the pedal and pedal wiring harness from the Subaru donor car and use this kit to replace the original pedal in your van.

Installation:

  • Remove the carpet from the driver's footwell of your van to expose the body sheet metal.
  • Drill out the rivets holding the factory vanagon pedal to the floor.
  • From under the van, drop the spare tire and remove the accelerator cable from the pedal assembly linkage.
  • Remove the cable from the van.
  • Position the powdercoated bracket included in the kit so that the bottom two holes align with the two holes from which you removed the pedal rivets.
    • Note: you'll need to swivel the top of the bracket under the front body support member so that the upper two holes sit flush against the pinch weld.
  • When you have the rivet holes perfectly aligned in the bottom, mark the upper two bracket holes with a sharpie.
  • Center punch the marks you made in the pinch weld and drill out to approx. 10mm.
  • Install the bracket using the included self-tapping screws in the upper bracket holes.
  • With a rivet gun, install the included rivets through the bottom two holes.
  • Position the Subaru pedal assembly in the bracket, aligning the mounting holes with the holes in the bracket.
    • Note: There are four holes in the bracket.  Two holes will align with Subaru pedals that are of metal construction and two holes will align with Subaru pedals made of plastic.
  • Center punch through the holes in the pedal assembly and bracket.
  • Remove the pedal assembly and drill through the bracket and floor sheet metal.
  • With a helper under the van, tighten the pedal fasteners through the bracket.
  • Extend the pedal wiring harness back to the throttle body using the included butt connectors.

Please Note: There is an additional 10% restocking fee applied to all powdercoated products being returned
