This exhaust heat exchanger fits the left (driver's) side on all 1980-1983 Vanagons with the aircooled 2.0L engine.

The heat exchanger transfers the heat from your van's exhaust and turns it into heat for the inside of your van.  You'll know your heat exchanger is bad either when your van gets noisy (or noisier) or when you smell exhaust in the cabin of your van (not good).

Pro-tip:  Be sure to check your rear hatch seal if you have exhaust in the cabin.  Your exhaust may be fine but if your hatch seal is shot, exhaust from your tail pipe could be intruding...
