Guide ring for the rear gear linkage bearing pin/rod next to the transmission in aircooled and diesel Vanagons 1980-1983.4 -basically all models with the three-piece shift rod linkage.  

This is a wear item and if you have play at the rear of your shift linkage, this may be the culprit.
