Thanksgiving week always feels a little different.
Not just because of the food or the long weekend, but because so many of us are headed somewhere familiar. Back to old neighborhoods, childhood driveways, or the houses where we once sat at the kids’ table.
The roads this week seem to carry a little more meaning than usual. They’re the same roads that bring us home — whatever that word looks like these days.
And as funny as it sounds, this is the time of year when Vanagon life and family life start to feel pretty similar.
Both can warm your heart.
Both can test your patience.
And both have a few characters who show up whether you invited them or not.
Every family’s got that one relative who reminds you of a Vanagon cold start. Slow to get going, needs a little encouragement, but eventually settles into a steady rhythm.
There’s always someone who rattles, someone who squeaks, someone who argues in odd frequencies.
And yet, you wouldn’t trade them. They’re part of what makes the whole thing feel like home.
The same goes for our vans.
Sure, they can be stubborn.
Sure, they have their quirks.
But we love them anyway. They carry our stories, our people, our weekend escapes, our memories that don’t fit in a suitcase.
This week is a reminder of how lucky we are to have both — the folks who show up for us and the vans that carry us to them.
A time for gathering, laughing, eating too much, and maybe telling a few travel stories that end with “but we made it.”
So wherever you’re headed and whatever shape “home” takes, here’s to a safe trip, a warm seat at the table, and a van that behaves just enough to get you there and back.
Happy Thanksgiving from Van Cafe!
May the roads be kind, the company good, and the quirks feel a little less annoying this week.
