Original 1.9-liter bleeder valve housings were made of plastic - became brittle with age and prone to breaking and leaking. We are pleased to be offering an aluminum version that will outlast the van. Please note that there are two small outlets for automatic models equipped with the stock automatic transmission cooler. If you use this bleeder housing for a manual transmission van, please use the supplied screws and washer to cap these outlets. Please use a medium strength thread locker when installing the screws. Fits from chassis number D-089699 thru 1985.

For Rare Early Models: Are you looking in your 1.9L engine compartment and not seeing this junction? Do you instead have two very long hoses that go from your coolant pipes to your thermostat housing? You are not crazy. You have the setup of the first wasserboxer design. After around six months, Volkswagen updated to include this junction with a bleeder valve and four separate hoses to make it easier to service the system.

We recommend upgrading your van to include this junction, and here's a list of the items you'll need to complete the upgrade:

If you are getting the three rubber hoses and one silicone hose above, you'll need six SS Liner Clamps #24  for the rubber hoses. If you are going with silicone for all four hoses, they need special clamps, which are supplied with every silicone hose, so no need to get extra.

2 x Hose Adapters (you have 1.25" coolant pipes, but the new hoses that will connect to the return and feed lines are sized at 1.5", so these hose adapters will allow the new hoses to fit on your smaller pipes)

You’ll need a foot of 5/16 Coolant Hose to connect the nipple on top of the bleeder valve junction directly to the metal water pipe, plus two Fuel Line Clamps #2 to secure the hose.
